New CSD postbaccalaureate program to be offered

RELEASED: Dec. 1, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — Registration is now open for new online courses offered through the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire communication sciences and disorders department and Continuing Education. The courses are part of a postbaccalaureate sequence designed for individuals who want to become speech-language pathologists, but hold bachelor's degrees in different fields.

The courses are part of the 30-credit minimum of CSD course work required for admission to a CSD graduate program. Speech-language pathologists may be able to apply these courses toward state licensure requirements. Individuals may take as many of the courses as they wish. No prerequisites are required and the courses may be taken in any order. All four spring online courses run from Jan. 24-May 20, 2011, and are taught by UW-Eau Claire communication sciences and disorders department faculty members.

The courses are:

  • "Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing," (four credits), taught by Dr. Jerry Hoepner, assistant professor of communication sciences and disorders.
  • "Normal Communication Development," (three credits), taught by Carolyn Christian, clinical instructor in communication sciences and disorders.
  • "Phonetics: Theory and Application," (two credits), taught by Dr. Lisa LaSalle, professor of communication sciences and disorders and ASHA board recognized specialist in fluency disorders.
  • "Phonological Disorders," (three credits), taught by Dr. Marie Stadler, associate professor of communication sciences and disorders and graduate program coordinator.
