RELEASED: Aug. 25, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire communication sciences and disorders department and Continuing Education announce a partnership with SpeechPathology.com to deliver online continuing education programs with the option to earn either ASHA continuing education units or university credit. The programs will be of particular interest to speech-language pathologists, audiologists, educators and allied health professionals.

"We are very excited to partner with SpeechPathology.com to serve the educational needs of speech-language pathologists and other professionals in the United States as well as abroad," said Dr. Kristine Retherford, professor and chair of the UW-Eau Claire communication sciences and disorders department. "This partnership also allows us to recognize the contributions of Nancy McKinley to the profession of speech-language pathology." Nancy McKinley was an internationally recognized expert on adolescent language disorders and president and CEO of Thinking Publications in Eau Claire until her death in 2005.

"Given the current advances in instructional technology, this partnership allows SpeechPathology.com to provide the online access and educational content needed for the profession, while UW-Eau Claire offers professionals the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills through university credit courses," said Dr. Stacy Williams, president of SpeechPathology.com. The goal for this partnership is to provide the most up-to-date information to allied health professionals targeting 'best practice' assessment and intervention practices in a convenient online process to help clinicians meet the ongoing needs of their patients and families."

The first partnership program, "Current Issues in Childhood Apraxia of Speech," consists of a series of live webcasts to be held from 11 a.m.-noon CDT Oct. 11-15. Archived presentations will be available 24 hours after each webcast. The sessions will feature leading experts in childhood apraxia of speech and will focus on the latest in research, diagnosis and management.

The Nancy McKinley Lecture Series on Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger Syndrome, the second partnership event, will be held from 11 a.m.-noon CST Jan. 17-21, 2011. The series will feature national experts Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Emily Rubin, Dr. Elisabeth Wiig, Dr. Rhea Paul, Dr. Carol Westby, Michelle Winner and Dr. Sylvia Diehl.
