Program on childhood apraxia of speech to be offered

RELEASED: Aug. 25, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — Registration is now open for "Current Issues in Childhood Apraxia of Speech," an online program offered through a partnership between University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education and SpeechPathology.com, a virtual conference and online course provider.

The program consists of a series of live, one-hour webcasts to be held from 11 a.m.-noon CDT Oct. 11-15. The archived presentations will be available 24 hours after each live webcast. Designed for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, educators and allied health professionals, the course offers ASHA continuing education units through Speechpathology.com and an option for university credit through UW-Eau Claire.

Leading experts in childhood apraxia of speech will discuss the latest in research, diagnosis and management. Guest editors will be Amy Hansen and Linda Schreiber, experts in speech-language pathology. Topics and presenters are as follows:

  • Oct. 11,"Overview and Clinical Evaluation in CAS" — Dr. Rebecca McCauley.
  • Oct. 12, "The Neurological Evaluation Process of CAS" — Dr. Amy Newmeyer.
  • Oct. 13, "Intervention Techniques in CAS" — Dr. Shelly Velleman.
  • Oct. 14, "Genetic Findings of CAS: What the Research Shows" — Dr. Barbara Lewis.
  • Oct. 15, Round-table discussion — McCauley, Newmeyer, Velleman and Lewis.
