'Building Blugolds' welcome back event to showcase campus programs

RELEASED: Aug. 23, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will kick off the 2010-11 academic year with a day of events to welcome students and familiarize them with campus activities and programs to enrich their college experience.

"Building Blugolds" will take place Sept. 1 in and around Schofield Hall and the Central Campus Mall area. Co-sponsored by Activities and Programs, Career Services, University Recreation & Sport Facilities, the Alumni Association and Erbert and Gerbert's Sandwich Shop on Water Street, the day will feature music, food, games, prizes and opportunities to get involved at UW-Eau Claire. Events will be held between move-in day and the first day of classes to help students get acclimated to campus, network with others and have fun.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • Blugold Alumni Meet 'n' Greet, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Schofield lawn. Students are invited to network with Blugold alumni, who will talk about their current careers, career paths and organizational involvement. Students will have time to ask questions about how to make the most of their Blugold experience. The first 1,000 students will receive a free sandwich from the Water Street Erbert and Gerbert's Sandwich Shop.
  • Career Services Open House, noon-2 p.m., Career Services (Schofield 230). Students are invited to learn about the career-related resources and tools available to them for career exploration, internships and job searching in the Career Services office. Students can stop by for free ice cream and enter a door prize drawing.
  • Blugold Organizations Bash, 2-5 p.m., Central Campus Mall. Approximately 120 campus organizations will hand out information and discuss the benefits of membership. Students are invited to shop around for the groups that will give them the best opportunities for friendship, involvement, leadership and job-related experience at UW-Eau Claire. In case of rain, the alternate site will be Zorn Arena.
