Continuing Education to offer social media workshops

image for social media workshopEAU CLAIRE — Registration is now open for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education series "The Language of Social Media." Designed for adults who are new to social networking, the workshops will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings, Oct. 5-Nov. 9 (except Nov. 2), on the UW-Eau Claire campus. The October workshops will be held in Room 160 of the Haas Fine Arts. The Nov. 9 practice session will be held in Room 219 of Phillips Hall.

Laurie Boettcher, a speaker, trainer and social media enthusiast with more than 15 years of design and communication experience, will lead the series.

Workshop topics are:

  • Oct. 5 — "Introduction to Social Media" will cover the basics of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Oct. 12 — "Facebook for Beginners" will focus on setting up a Facebook account, posting, finding or removing friends and using privacy protection settings.
  • Oct. 19 — "Twitter Know-How" will cover setting up an account, creating a custom background, tweetiquette, tweeting and getting followers.
  • Oct. 26 — "LinkedIn Basics" will focus on the importance of a LinkedIn presence, making a profile, business networking and job searching.
  • Nov. 9 — "Social Media Knowledge to Use" will provide an opportunity for those who have taken one of the October social media workshops to practice on their own laptops or use a computer on site. The instructor will address questions and concerns as they come up.

The cost for the October workshops is $39 per session; the cost for the Nov. 9 practice session is $25 (participants must have attended at least one of the October social media workshops).
