April 26 International Poetry Reading
to feature 32 languages

image for International Poetry ReadingEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's fourth annual International Poetry Reading will showcase the beauty of languages from around the world April 26 from 7-9 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Thirty-nine readers will recite poems in 32 ancient and modern languages, "from American Sign Language and Belarusian to Vietnamese," said Dr. Jeff Vahlbusch, associate professor of German and director of the university's Honors Program, who along with Dr. Audrey Fessler, assistant professor of English and women's studies, has organized the event since 2007.

Twenty-two UW-Eau Claire students, 13 faculty and staff members, and six community members will read at the event. No poetry will be read in standard English, but attendees will be provided English translations of all poems.

The International Poetry Reading is hosted by UW-Eau Claire's English Festival and sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, Center for International Education and the foreign languages and English departments. The event is free and open to the public.
