Earth Day Eco Walk set for April 24

RELEASED: April 21, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — An Earth Day Eco Walk is planned for 10-11:30 a.m. April 24 in Eau Claire. Participants should meet at the band shell in Owen Park.

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire conservation biology students and Dr. Paula Kleintjes Neff, professor of biology, will lead the urban ecology nature walk through several educational stations.

The walk is open to people of all ages.

Those participating in the nature walk will learn about:

  • Vegetation management of Owen Park and on the UW-Eau Claire campus.
  • Rain gardens, including the garden in UW-Eau Claire's Water Street parking lot.
  • Seining for fish in the Chippewa River.
  • UW-Eau Claire's new student union.
  • Invasive buckthorn and garlic mustard in Putnam Park.
  • Spring wildflowers in Putnam Park.
  • Critters from bald eagles to butterflies.
