Musical events
for the week of April 19

RELEASED: April 15, 2010

EAU CLAIRE —The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning April 19. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 19:

  • Junior Kayla Theiste, Eau Claire, and sophomore Sam Bristol, Menomonie, will present a joint trumpet recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The students will present selections by Archangelo Corelli, Paul Hindemith, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Alan Hovhaness. Theiste and Bristol will be assisted on piano by Anne Kubiatowicz and Dr. Owen Lovell, assistant professor of music, and by two student brass ensembles.
  • The Noon-Time Corner Horner Horn Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The student ensemble will present selections by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Marvin McCoy, Richard Wagner, Joseph and Johann Strauss and others. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Verle Ormsby Jr., senior lecturer of music.

Wednesday, April 21:

  • Senior Tyler Anderson, Eagan, Minn., will present a saxophone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by Roger Bethard, Anderson will present selections by Paul Bonneau, Takashi Yoshimatsu, Barry Cockcroft and Steve Reich. Anderson also will present two of his own compositions, "Resolution" and "Chaos in Motion."
    UW-Eau Claire music faculty and students will present a "New Music" recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will feature pieces by David Lang, Neil Thornock, Larry Baker and Anton Webern.

Thursday, April 22:

  • Senior soprano Leisa Sunier, Kenosha, and junior mezzo-soprano Amelia Royce Lumsden, Baraboo, will present a joint voice recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by David Hurd and senior Samuel Bryan Emmons, Sunier and Lumsden will present selections by Benjamin Britten, Dominick Argento, Francis Poulenc, Joaquín Rodrigo and others.
