Community fundraiser for Bolton Refuge House set for April 18

RELEASED: April 14, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The V-Day organization will host a benefit concert for renovations to Bolton Refuge House from 2-8 p.m. April 18 on the campus mall. The event will be held in conjunction with Little Sibs' Weekend and is open to the community.

Local band Smokin' Pony and a cappella group Audacious will perform. There will be games for all ages including hula-hoop contests, sack races and a dunk tank. At 3 p.m. concert-goers will have a chance to dunk UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich, the Homecoming king and queen, and other local celebrities and politicians. There also will be a book drive.

Bolton Refuge House provides a variety of services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Its mission is to offer safety, support, education and other services as well as skills or alternatives to empower victims and enhance the safety and well-being of domestic violence and/or sexual assault survivors.

The free event is sponsored in part by Rock 'n Roll To Go. Financial and book donations are welcome.
