Committee aims to include sustainable practices in new academic building

RELEASED: April 12, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — A committee charged with planning a new education building at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is asking members of the campus community to share ideas for incorporating sustainable practices into the new building.

The Education Building Committee will host a discussion about sustainability from 3-5 p.m. April 21 in the Presidents Room of Davies Center.

Prior to the April 21 discussion, committee members would like faculty, staff and students to share their ideas for incorporating sustainable practices into the siting, design, furnishing and operation of the building.

Members of the campus community are invited to share their ideas via a survey.

The new education building will be the first fully state-funded building to be constructed on the UW-Eau Claire campus since the Human Sciences and Services building in 1982. It will house the College of Education and Human Sciences, as well as select academic departments and student support services offices. It will be located where the Campus School now sits.

The $44.5 million project received advanced enumeration in the 2009-11 state budget; funding must be included in the 2011-13 budget for the project to proceed.

For more information, contact Dr. Gail Scukanec, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences, at 715-836-3264 or scukangp@uwec.edu.
