Sexual assault film, discussion slated for April 19

RELEASED: April 9, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — A screening and discussion of the film "I Never Thought it was Rape" will begin at 7 p.m. April 19 in the Alumni Room of Davies Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The event, part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, is sponsored by the Women's and Gender Equity Center and the Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault at UW-Eau Claire.

The film features interviews with three rape survivors and one offender and attempts to dispel myths about rape and sexual assault. It also raises questions about sex education and the appropriate punishment for sex offenders.

Amanda Leiknes, CASA coordinator, and Abby Vercauteren, women's issues program coordinator for the WAGE Center, will co-facilitate a discussion following the film.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Abby Vercauteren at 715-836-2693 or vercaual@uwec.edu.
