Musical events
for the week of April 12

RELEASED: April 8, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning April 12. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 12:

  • Senior Angela Roehl, New London, will present a flute recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. She will present selections by Franz Schubert, C.P.E. Bach, Joseph Schwantner and Walter Piston.
  • The UW-Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra will present two Baroque suites at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Under the direction of Dr. Tulio Rondón, assistant professor of music, the orchestra will perform Concert pour Quatre Parties de Viols by M.A. Charpentier and Henry Purcell's "Abdelazer" (The Moor's Revenge).

Tuesday, April 13:

  • Senior Matthew Kruszka, Janesville, will present a bassoon recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by Anne Kubiatowicz and on bassoon by sophomore Alex Widstrand and freshman Michael Jobb, Kruszka will present selections by C. Julius Weissenborn, William Hurlstone, Capel Bond and Burrill Phillips.

Wednesday, April 14:

  • Sophomore Emma Smith, Waukesha, and sophomore Jory Tuftin, Brooklyn Park, Minn., will present a joint flute and cello recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by junior Greg Ellis and Roger Bethard, Smith and Tuftin will present selections by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms and Pierre Ferroud.
  • Senior Stephanie Schmidt, St. Croix Falls, will present a piano recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. She will perform pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Alberto Ginastera.
  • Senior Angela Nieman, Milwaukee, will present a voice degree recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Nieman, a mezzo-soprano, will present selections by Samuel Barber, Rebecca Clarke, Jacques Offenbach and others. She will be assisted by junior Gillian Pacetti, a soprano, and by UW-Eau Claire graduate David Hurd on piano.

Thursday, April 15:

  • Senior Rick Slembarski, Mosinee, will present a piano and euphonium recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by Dr. Owen Lovell, assistant professor of music, Slembarski will perform selections by Donald White, Charles Ives, Johannes Brahms, Charles Gounod, Johann Sebastian Bach and others..
  • The student clarinet quartet "Just for Clarification" will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will include selections by Seymour Barab, Arcangelo Corelli, George Keith, Daniel Dorff and Scott Joplin.

Sunday, April 18:

  • Dr. Jessica Riley, assistant professor of music, will present a faculty voice recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Riley, a mezzo-soprano, will perform pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Henry Purcell, Gustav Mahler and others. She will be accompanied by Dr. Barbara Young, lecturer of music, on piano.
