RELEASED: April 1, 2010

Stroll in the Park graphicEAU CLAIRE — Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire head coaches will participate in the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin's annual fundraising walk May 8.

Women's basketball coach Tonja Englund and football coach Todd Glaser will lead the "Stroll in the Park for Epilepsy," a 1.5 mile walk set to start at 9:30 a.m. in Irvine Park, Chippewa Falls. Members of the basketball and football teams, including coaching staffs, also will don their walking shoes.

The EFWW board of directors includes several current or retired UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff members. Board members Angie Stombaugh, assistant professor of nursing; Kirby Harless, residence hall director; and Dr. Elaine Wendt, dean emerita of nursing, will join in the walk.

More than 13,000 people in Western Wisconsin have epilepsy, a neurological disorder in which electrical signals in the brain temporarily send mixed messages to the body. The results can range from brief episodes of staring to convulsions. EFWW is dedicated to promoting life opportunities for people with epilepsy and their families through advocacy, support and individual and community education.
