for the Week of Oct. 5

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances during the week beginning Oct. 5. All events are free and open to the public.

Sunday, Oct. 11:

  • Guest artists Timothy Schorr and Mary Ellen Haupert, faculty members at Viterbo University in La Crosse, will present a piano performance titled "Dancing Four Hands: American Piano Duets by Corigliano, Gottschalk, Beach and Barber" at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will begin with "Gazebo Dances" by John Corigliano, followed by Louis Moreau Gottschalk's Grand Tarantelle, Op. 67. The performance will continue with Amy M.C. Beach's "Three Movements for Piano Four-Hands" and conclude with "Souvenirs: Ballet Suite, Op. 28" by Samuel Barber.
  • Guest artist Bruce Tychinski, an assistant professor of music at the University of Southern Mississippi, will present a trombone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will begin with Belgian composer Jean-Baptist Loeillet de Gant's Recorder Sonata in F Major, Op. 2. Next will be Palmetto Suite for Alto Trombone by Eric Ewazen and "Meditation" from the 1894 opera "Thais" by Jules Massenet. The final two selections will be "Unaccompanied Suite" by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Leslie Bassett and "La Petite Suzanne" by Arthur Pryor. In addition to his performance, Tychinski also will work with UW-Eau Claire trombone students Oct. 12.
