UW-Eau Claire Workshop to Focus on Effective Teaching

RELEASED: Sept. 15, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a two-day, Midwest regional workshop on student achievement in higher education from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9-10 at UW-Eau Claire.

"Let Me Learn: The Tipping Point to Achieving Success with Students" has been organized in conjunction with Let Me Learn, a nonprofit organization that offers professional development in the Let Me Learn Process. UW-Eau Claire alumna Dr. Christine Johnston founded and originated the advanced learning system and will lead the workshop for UW-Eau Claire faculty currently receiving training in the process, as well as any area educators who would like to attend. Educators from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota have been invited.

The goal of the workshop is to teach participants how to use the Let Me Learn Process to better understand the learners in their classes, improve their students' persistence and achievement, and build learning communities and teams that achieve greater results.

Now in its 17th year, Let Me Learn has been used by more than 39,000 students in the United States, the European Union, the Mediterranean Rim and Australia. Let Me Learn's impact on student success has been recognized by various institutions of higher learning, including the University of South Florida, Clemson University, Rowan University, Foothill College, Texas A&M University and Hofstra University. Corporate DuPont has been the primary funder of the organization's ongoing research on developing autonomous learners in grades K-16 and in the business world.

"We are excited about this opportunity to work with the university and bring attention to its mission of excellence and renewed focus on learning," said UW-Eau Claire alumnus Joel Johnston, executive director of Let Me Learn Inc. "We look forward to reaching out to higher education professionals here at UW-Eau Claire and across the upper Midwest and giving them a chance to learn about this advanced learning system."

For more information on the workshop schedule and costs, or to register, visit the Let Me Learn Web site. The priority registration deadline is Sept. 22.
