for the Week of Sept. 14

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Sept. 14. All events are free and open to the public.

Sunday, Sept. 20:

  • Dr. Paul Kosower, professor emeritus of music, will present an organ recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will begin with Charles Marie Widor's Sixth Symphony Op. 42, followed by "Aspiration Religieuse" by Marco Enrico Bossi and "Trumpet Prelude" by Johan Helmich Roman. The first half of the recital will conclude with "Suite Gothique" by Leon Boellmann. The second half of the performance will begin with two selections by J.S. Bach, followed by Max Reger's "Ave Maria." The recital will conclude with Louis Vierne's First Symphony Op. 14. Kosower has performed cello and organ concerts throughout the United States and parts of Europe and has taught on music faculties at Indiana State University, East Carolina University and UW-Eau Claire, where he is a professor emeritus. Kosower has been composing works for cello and organ and has performed solo recitals broadcast numerous times over Minnesota and Wisconsin Public Radio.
  • The music and theatre arts department will present a faculty recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will feature Dr. Tim Lane, professor of music, on flute; Dr. Christa Garvey, associate professor of music, on oboe; and Lori Cruciani, lecturer of music, on piano. The recital will begin with J.S.Bach's Sonata in Eb Major, followed by "Passages" by Dr. Ethan Wickman, assistant professor of music, and Alberto Ginestera's Duo for Flute and Oboe. The second half of the recital will begin with two pieces by Mario Lavista, followed by Sonatina by Sverre Jordan. The performance will conclude with "Polanaise Brilliante," Op. 4 by Henryk Wieniawski, as arranged by Lane.
