Two students receive prestigious journalism scholarships

RELEASED: Oct. 22, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire print journalism majors have received 2009-10 Greater Milwaukee Foundation Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Fund scholarships.

Senior David Taintor, Chanhassen, Minn., and junior Breann Schossow, Houston, Minn., each were awarded $1,750 scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded to full-time continuing students pursuing a career in radio, television or other news and entertainment communications media. The primary criteria for selection are financial need and scholastic ability, with preference given to students who have a current relationship with Journal Communications Inc. or one of its subsidiaries. Journal Communications companies include: The Journal Sentinel Inc., Journal Community Publishing Group, Journal Broadcast Group, IPC Print Services and PrimeNet.

The scholarship funds for tuition and fees are awarded in two parts — half in the fall of 2009 and half in the spring of 2010.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation is a family of nearly 1,000 individual charitable funds, each created by donors to serve the local charitable causes of their choice. Grants from these funds serve people throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. Started in 1915, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the United States. More information is available online.
