International Folk Fair set for Oct. 25

Folk Fair imageEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will once again bring the community together by transforming Davies Center into a miniature world with many nationalities and groups displaying their cultures at the annual International Folk Fair.

The International Folk Fair, will run from noon-4 p.m. Oct. 25. The fair is free and open to the public.

The International Folk Fair, which is coordinated by the Center for International Education, is the largest international festival of its kind in the area. Serving as a cultural exchange between exhibitors and visitors to the fair, it includes colorful cultural exhibits, educational activities for children, art and craft displays, history, language, live music and a variety of ethnic food.

Past attendees have called the International Folk Fair an enlightening experience, noting the quality of the exhibits as well as the pleasure of seeing so many people from different cultures working together to make the fair happen.

Entertainment includes student groups presenting their musical talents, which include traditional dancing and instrumental performances on native instruments.

More than 40 cultural groups and organizations will be represented, including the Baltic Student Organization, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Student Organization of Latinas/os, Chinese Cultural Association, German Club, Austria, India, Nepal, Friends of Kenya, Hmong Student Association, Mexico & Costa Rica, Vietnam, Ukraine, Jewish Student Association, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Le Salon Francais, Macedonia, Latin American Studies, UNICEF, Serbia, Moldova, Malaysia, Mongolia, Sigma Delta Pi, Japanese Cultural Society, Scandinavia, Model United Nations, Korean Student Association, Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners, Czech Republic & Slovakia, West African Music Society, World Cultural Center, Native American Student Association, Amnesty International, Uzbekistan, AIESEC, Spanish Business Association, and the Latin American Sustainability, Education & Development Association.
