EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students, faculty and staff are invited to a presentation from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 16 by the co-author of a new book that examines U.S. college student graduation rates.

Michael McPherson, co-author of the just-published "Crossing the Finish Line: Completing College at America's Public Universities," will speak in the Presidents Room of Davies Center. The presentation will be moderated by UW-Eau Claire Provost Patricia Kleine.

McPherson, president of the Spencer Foundation and former president of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., will be on campus as a guest of the UW System Board of Regents, which is meeting Oct. 15-16 at UW-Eau Claire. In addition to sharing information from his book with the regents, he has agreed to offer a special presentation for UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students.

"Crossing the Finish Line" — "a must-read" according to American Council on Education President Molly Corbett Broad, asks why only 60 percent of students entering public colleges are graduating and what can be done about it.

"This in-depth analysis of 21 public universities and four statewide systems — including the UW System — is especially timely as we look at how UW-Eau Claire can enhance learning and graduation rates for our students," Kleine said.

Copies of the book will be available at UW-Eau Claire's University Bookstore.
