Forensics team places at MAFL

RELEASED: Oct. 2, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team recently competed in the first two Mid American Forensics League tournaments. The team placed fourth overall at MAFL No. 1 Sept. 26 at Harper Community College in Palatine, Ill., and third overall at MAFL No. 2 Sept. 27 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

Individual results for MAFL No. 1 are as follows:

Junior Meghan Pickard, Eau Claire, placed second in persuasion and qualified for that event at the National Forensic Association tournament.

Senior Dylan Jambrek, Waukesha, placed fourth in after-dinner speaking and fifth in extemporaneous speaking. He qualified for NFA in both events.

Junior Whitney Zahn, Menomonee Falls, placed fourth in informative speaking, fifth in impromptu speaking and fifth in communication analysis. She qualified for NFA in all three events.

Senior Nick Miller, Hales Corners, placed fifth in persuasion and qualified for NFA.

Junior Alicia Gerber, Ringle, placed sixth in prose interpretation and qualified for NFA.

Sophomore James Kust, Eau Claire, placed seventh in impromptu speaking and qualified for NFA.

Individual results for MAFL No. 2 are as follows:

Jambrek placed first in after-dinner speaking.

Miller placed second in both persuasion and duo interpretation along with senior Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, Minn. Miller and Magnusson qualified for NFA in duo interpretation.

Gerber placed third in prose interpretation, fourth in program oral interpretation and fifth in dramatic interpretation. She qualified for NFA in dramatic interpretation.

Zahn placed third in informative speaking.

Pickard placed third in persuasion.

Sophomore Holly Albers, Mazeppa, Minn., placed fifth in both prose interpretation and informative speaking. She qualified for NFA in both events.
