Jazz ensembles to perform Nov. 24

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensembles IV and V, directed by Robert Baca, professor of music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The concert will feature several student conductors. Seniors Brian Handeland, Minneapolis, Minn., and Aaron Hedenstrom, St. Paul, Minn., will conduct Jazz Ensemble V; and seniors Corey Cunningham, Holmen, and Brian Claxton, Pepin, will conduct Jazz Ensemble IV.

Jazz Ensemble V will begin the concert with "Hip Hop/Neo Soul Medley" and "Ain't Misbehavin," both arranged by Hedenstrom. Next will be "Mira, Mira" by Matt Harris, "Us" by Thad Jones and "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by Charles Mingus. Jazz V will conclude its portion of the concert with "It Could Happen to You" by Johnny Burke. The performance also will feature a surprise guest vocalist.

The second half of the concert will feature Jazz Ensemble IV. It will begin with "How High the Moon" by Jack Yellen, Miles Davis' "All Blues" and "Song for my Father" by Horace Silver. Next will be "All of Me" by Seymour Simmons and Gerald Marks, and "Hard Hearted Hannah" by Jack Yellen. The concert will conclude with Mike Barone's "Shawnee."

The concert is free and open to the public.
