McIntyre Library staff to raise funds for area Hmong program

RELEASED: Nov. 16, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire McIntyre Library Staff Association will again accept donations for its annual fundraiser that will benefit the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.

The association has held the fundraiser for more than a decade, raising thousands of dollars for the HMAA.

Last year the effort raised $1,912, which was used to purchase rice for the HMAA food pantry.

Many Hmong families in the Eau Claire area rely on the HMAA for their basic sustenance. The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community by operating a food pantry and assisting in housing, employment and translating services. The agency also works with other area services to assist the local Hmong community.

Anyone is welcome to contribute to the library staff's project. Checks, made payable to McIntyre Library Staff Association, should be submitted by Dec. 11 to Dan Hillis in Room 5012 of McIntyre Library. Names of contributors will be included on a card accompanying the donation that will be given to the HMAA. Contributors who want to be anonymous should indicate so.

For more information, contact Jill Markgraf at 715-836-5357 or markgrjs@uwec.edu.
