City street sweeping to affect street parking near
UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: Nov. 12, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The city of Eau Claire will continue street sweeping Nov. 13 in neighborhoods near the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and will enforce temporary parking restrictions along the affected routes.

Street sweepers will work in the following areas:

  • 700 and 800 blocks of Market Street
  • 500 through 900 blocks of Menomonie Street
  • 100 through 500 blocks of Chippewa Street
  • 100 through 500 blocks of Niagara Street
  • 100 block of Fifth Avenue

Temporary no-parking signs will be posted Nov. 12 on those streets where work will be performed Nov. 13.

Any vehicles parked in temporary no-parking areas will be ticketed and towed, according to an e-mail message to the university from Eau Claire street maintenance manager Mike Barnhardt.

The fine for parking in a no-parking area is $30. The cost for retrieving a vehicle from the towing company is $50 plus storage costs, an Eau Claire Police Department official said in a recent Leader-Telegram article about 41 vehicles that were towed due to violations of temporary parking restrictions in effect during street sweeping in the city's Third Ward.

The temporary no-parking signs will be removed when street sweeping is completed, allowing for vehicles to again park on those streets

For more information, contact the city of Eau Claire Street Maintenance Division at 715-839-4963.
