SUBJECT: Environmental public health students to participate in mock drills TODAY
Students in UW-Eau Claire's environmental public health program will participate in a series of mock drills from 11:15 a.m.-noon TODAY (Nov. 10) in the green space south of Davies Center on lower campus.
As part of the mock drill, there will be six "hazardous" bottles of liquids and five sites of "radioactive waste" in the area. Students will use GPS tracking, pH testing and radioactivity testing to assess the risks.
Reporters and photographers are welcome.
The field of environmental health includes people whose work is directed toward controlling environmental health hazards; and preserving and improving environmental factors to achieve optimum health, safety, comfort and wellbeing.
Various courses at UW-Eau Claire provide students with the educational background that is necessary for employment in regulatory agencies or industries concerned with environmental quality.
For more information about today's mock drills or the environmental health program, contact Dr. Crispin Pierce, environmental public health program coordinator, at 715-836-5589 or piercech@uwec.edu.
