Indianhead Honors Band to perform with Wind Symphony Nov. 14

RELEASED: Nov. 3, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wind Symphony and the Indianhead Honors Band, directed by Dr. Peter Haberman, assistant professor of music, will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Wind Symphony will perform "Asphalt Cocktail" by John Mackey; Concerto for Trombone by Jeff Tyzik, featuring Dr. Phillip Ostrander, associate professor of music, on trombone; Percy Grainger's "Irish Tune from Country Derry"; Giovannini Gabrieli's "Canzona Primi Toni"; and "Cathedrals" by Kathryn Salfelder.

The Honors Band will perform "Florentiner March" by Julius Fucik; Sammy Nestico's "Refective Mood," featuring Ostrander on trombone; "As Summer Was Just Beginning" by Larry Daehn; "Flourish for Wind Band" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; "American Riversongs" by Pierre La Plante; and Jan Van Der Roost's "Puszta."

The Indianhead Honors Band is composed of nearly 80 students from Wisconsin and Minnesota high schools. Interested students apply and members are chosen by UW-Eau Claire faculty. Prior to the concert with the Wind Symphony, students take part in the Indianhead Wind Clinic hosted by Ostrander.
