UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education Offers
ACT Prep Course This Summer

RELEASED: May 21, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will offer an ACT prep course for high school students this summer.

The course will be offered in a weeklong format from Aug. 3-7. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on the UW-Eau Claire campus.

The prep course will cover the five academic areas measured by the ACT: English, reading, mathematics, scientific reasoning and writing. Students take two official ACT practice exams and write an essay that is reviewed by UW-Eau Claire faculty. In addition, the course instructors share test-taking strategies for each exam section and give time tests to make students comfortable with the exam's fast pace. Students also receive ACT textbooks that are theirs to keep to study on their own.

UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education youth coordinator Libby Thurston believes the program serves a need in the community for additional college entrance test preparation.

"The ACT Prep Course is meant to be a cost effective option for students who need to review key concepts before taking the actual exam," Thurston said. "While some students opt to prepare on their own, others benefit from a more structured environment."

The ACT Prep Course tuition is $149, which includes instruction, practice exams, essay evaluation and the ACT textbook.
