Acclaimed Trombonist Jiggs Whigham to Begin Tour at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE — Internationally acclaimed trombonist Jiggs Whigham will tour western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota May 11-13, beginning with a May 11 visit to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Whigham will lead a master class from 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 11 in Gantner Hall in the Haas Fine Arts Center. Following the master class, there will be a meet and greet session with Whigham in the lobby.

On May 12, Whigham will perform and give clinics at various locations in the Eau Claire area. His tour includes the following: 8:30 a.m. at Regis High School in Eau Claire; 10:15 a.m. at Chippewa Falls High School; and noon at North High School in Eau Claire. Each performance or clinic will last one hour.

All events are free and open to the public.

Whigham is an acclaimed performer, bandleader and educator. The Cleveland native is currently a soloist and clinician worldwide. He also is the conductor of the BBC Big Band in Great Britain. He acts as the artistic director of the Berlin Jazz Orchestra and is a visiting professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Whigham also is a visiting tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. He recently was appointed musical director of the Brandenburger Youth Jazz Orchestra, in addition to being musical director of the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Whigham was a featured guest artist with the Eau Claire Jazz Festival in April.
