Five UW-Eau Claire Students to Compete in College Comedy Contest

EAU CLAIRE — A team of five University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students has been chosen for a March 30 regional competition in a national comedy talent search.

Teams from UW-Eau Claire and the University of Minnesota will compete in the regional rival match in the RooftopComedy National College Comedy Competition at 7:30 p.m. March 30 at the Acme Comedy Co. in Minneapolis. The audience and judges will choose which school will advance to the Ultimate Eight Selection Round.

The UW-Eau Claire comedy team includes Blaise Thompson, Wisconsin Rapids; Benjamin Smithart, Onalaska; Samuel Pfeifer, Madison; Buckley Jay Birkholz, Wausau; and David Buonauro, Eau Claire.

UW-Eau Claire is one of 32 colleges and universities participating in the national college comedy competition, which showcases the stage talents of aspiring standup comics. Students will perform five minutes of standup in the competition, which will be emceed by comedian James Moore.

Four comedy teams from around the country will compete in the June finals in Aspen, Colo.

RooftopComedy produces and distributes comedy performances by up-and-coming and established professional comedians from around the world.

UW-Eau Claire's participation in the program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the Student Senate.
