UW-Eau Claire Symphony Band and Wind Symphony to Perform March 29

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band and Wind Symphony will perform a joint concert at 2 p.m. March 29 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, directed by Phillip Ostrander, associate professor of music, will begin with "Blue Lake Overture" by John Barnes Chance, followed by "Ave Verum Corpus" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and "Introduction, Theme and Variation" by Johann Hummel, featuring Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, on oboe. Next will be "La Fiesta Mexicana" by H. Owen Reed and "Aurora Borealis" by Robert Rumbelow. The Symphony Band will conclude their half of the performance with Vasilij Agapkin's "Slavic Farewell."

The Wind Symphony, under the direction of James Colonna, music lecturer, will take the stage next with Colonna's original composition "7," followed by "Sketches on a Tudor Psalm" by Vincent Persichetti and "Raise the Roof" by Michael Daugherty, with Jeffery Crowell, associate professor of music, as featured timpani soloist. The final two selections of the concert will be "Dusk" by Steven Bryant and "Starry Crown" by Donald Grantham.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.

Tickets for all campus events also are on sale at the Service Center's ticket office in the main lobby of Haas Fine Arts Center. The ticket outlet is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and is closed during holidays and academic breaks.
