Eau Claire Jazz Festival to Kick Off with
'Light Food, Light Jazz' at Haymarket Grill

RELEASED: March 12, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The Eau Claire Jazz Festival will host a kick-off concert featuring jazz vocalists Christine Salerno and Woody Mankowski from 5-7 p.m. April 2 at Haymarket Grill in downtown Eau Claire.

Salerno and Mankowski will perform together, accompanied by members of UW-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensemble I. Salerno, vocal jazz director and piano professor at UW-Green Bay, is a renowned clinician, composer and performer. Mankowski, a professional saxophonist and commercial singer/instrumentalist, was a featured vocalist with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

The event, titled "Light Food, Light Jazz," will kick off a weekend of concerts, clinics and jazz events. Thursday's performance will feature a relaxed, jazz-club feel, complimentary Haymarket appetizers and chocolates compliments of Seroogys Chocolates. There will be a cash bar with Haymarket's $5 martini special and dinner available to order.

"We wanted to create a jazz club atmosphere," said Robert Baca, artistic director of the Jazz Festival. "We think the Haymarket will be a great venue for this, and you won't want to miss the music. It will be a great way to launch an incredible weekend of music and events."

Tickets for April 2 and all Jazz Festival concerts are available for purchase online at www.eauclairejazz.com and at Festival Foods and Mega Foods East and West. Tickets also will be sold at the door for all concerts, where still available. Tickets for Thursday's event are $5 for students, $9 for senior citizens and $10 for the general public.
