EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's student-run newspaper, The Spectator, earned an unprecedented eight awards from this year's Wisconsin Newspaper Association Conference held Jan. 29-30 in Green Bay.
Each year the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation hosts a student "Better Newspaper Contest" to recognize student achievements and contributions to their college newspapers. A panel of judges from Wisconsin's newspapers includes publishers, general managers, editors, reporters, photographers, copy editors and other staffers.
The Spectator brought home two awards last year.
This year, The Spectator took second in General Excellence (overall quality of the newspaper).
Individual winners are listed below.
The Wisconsin Newspaper Association awarded $1,500 scholarships to two student journalists. Boschma, managing editor of The Spectator, received one of these prestigious awards.
