UW-Eau Claire Alumnus to Discuss
South African Flora March 5

RELEASED: March 3, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumnus Steve Brack will present a talk on South African flora at 4 p.m. March 5 in Room 319 of Phillips Science Hall.

The presentation, which is part of the UW-Eau Claire Biological Sciences Seminar Series, is free and open to the public.

Brack, a 1970 graduate with degrees in mathematics and physics, followed his passion and opened the Mesa Garden succulent nursery in Belen, N.M., in 1973. He sent out his first mail order catalog in 1977.

Succulent or "fat" plants are water-retaining plants adapted to arid climates or soil conditions. According to the Cactus and Succulent Society of America, Brack is the only full-time producer and exporter of succulent seeds in the United States.

For more information on Brack's presentation, contact Lynn Janik, UW-Eau Claire greenhouse and animal facility manager, at 715-836-3523.
