Concrete Replacement Projects to Close Areas on UW-Eau Claire Campus

RELEASED: June 22, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — Starting June 22, areas throughout the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus will be closed during concrete replacement projects.

The areas affected have been marked with orange and pink spray paint. Once new concrete has been placed, the areas will be blocked off with caution tape and barricades for five to seven days to allow for adequate cure time, said Chris Hessel, construction project coordinator with UW-Eau Claire facilities planning and management.

Saw cutting and preparation of the areas may take place a day or two before they are scheduled for concrete replacement, but the old concrete will remain in place for use until the replacement date, Hessel said. Following is a schedule indicating when specific areas of concrete will be replaced, weather permitting:

  • Turnaround/15-minute parking area in front of Schofield Hall on Garfield Avenue, June 22. (This area includes parking spaces for individuals with disabilities. The spaces should be available again by July 2, weather permitting.)

  • Sidewalk areas by Haas Fine Arts Center, June 22.

  • Sidewalk areas in front of Schofield Hall leading to Zorn Arena, June 22.

  • Sidewalk and curb along Garfield Avenue from Putnam Hall to Schofield Hall, June 22.

  • Sidewalk in front of Phillips Hall, June 25.

  • Sidewalk and curb in front of Hibbard Hall, June 25.

  • Sidewalks around Davies Center and Old Library, June 29. (These areas will include the sidewalk at the east entrance to Davies Center. Access to that entrance will be limited July 3.)

  • Schneider Hall parking lot, July 2. (This area includes parking spaces for individuals with disabilities. The spaces should be available again by July 9, weather permitting.)

Work began June 19 replacing areas of sidewalk and curb by the university's Nursing Building, and those areas should be open again June 24, Hessel said.
