Two area UW-Eau Claire students are among those participating in a new summer chemistry research program funded by a highly competitive National Science Foundation grant. Tim Andrews, Eau Claire, a senior chemistry major, and Erin Stuckert, New Auburn, a junior chemistry and math major, are two of four UW-Eau Claire students serving as research mentors to four students from regional two-year colleges. The students, under the direction of UW-Eau Claire chemistry faculty members, are collaborating in pairs on research projects in the areas of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry; biochemistry; and materials science. Two goals of the new program are to offer research opportunities to students from institutions that cannot provide them and increase the diversity of students pursuing careers in the sciences. For more information contact program director Dr. Alan Gengenbach, UW-Eau Claire associate professor of chemistry, at 715-836-5518 or gengenaj@uwec.edu.
