Blue Max to Kick Off
UW-Eau Claire Summer Events

EAU CLAIRE — The rocking electric blues group Blue Max will kick off the University Centers Summer Events series June 8 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The free concert is open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Cabin, Davies Center). Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic. Free popcorn will be available.

Led by Howard "Guitar" Luedtke, one of the Midwest's best slide guitar players, Blue Max performs regularly at rock, blues and jazz festivals throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. Since 1987, Luedtke, with his wife and bassist, Deb Klossner, have shared stages with the best in the blues world, including Long John Baldrey, Sugar Blue, Lonnie Brooks, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, Debbie Davies, Tinsley Ellis, Jeff Healey, Jimmy Johnson, Kenny Neal, A.C. Reed, Eddie Shaw, James Solberg, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood, Joe Louis Walker and Johnny Winter.

Jazz at Noon concerts will take place every weekday in June starting June 8. Groups featuring UW-Eau Claire student and alumni musicians will perform on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Terrace, Davies Center). The 60-minute shows will feature music ranging from jazz standards to improvisation. The David Power Group will perform June 8-10, and the Mike Wolter Group will be featured June 11-12. A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.

Farmers Mart logoA sample of area farmers market offerings will be brought to campus at the Fresh Start Farmers Mart every Thursday, June 1118-July 30 [June 11 cancelled], rain or shine from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on the Central Campus Mall.

Presented in cooperation with the department of music and theatre arts, the Summer Sounds Series will open June 14 with the Sonora Reed Trio at 2 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of Haas Fine Arts Center. Light classical concerts will be held Sunday afternoons during the summer session.

With the theme "Welcome to our Backyard," the Summer Events series continues through July 30. A complete schedule is available at the Service Center, 715-836-3727, or online.

The eight-week series is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the University Centers.
