UW-Eau Claire Nursing Faculty Members Receive Awards

RELEASED: July 29, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — Five members of the staff or faculty in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire received awards during the nursing banquet marking the end of the spring semester.

Media specialists Marcia Bollinger and Robert Lieske received the The Ihle Family Award for Caring, which can be awarded to students, alumni, or members of the nursing faculty. Established by the Ihle family, this award recognizes those who perform nursing responsibilities in an unusually sensitive, caring way, perform teaching or administrative responsibilities in a manner that models caring attributes, or engages in activities which reflect a commitment to a caring colleagueship with peers, health care providers and/or clients.

Dr. Cheryl Brandt, associate professor of nursing, received the Patricia M. Ostmoe Award for Faculty and Academic Staff Excellence in Clinical Instruction, which was established by Dr. Ostmoe, dean of the School of Nursing (now CONHS) from 1982-95. She also served as a faculty person in the nursing systems department. Ostmoe retired in 1997 and established this award to recognize faculty for their excellence in clinical instruction.

Dr. Rosemary Jadack, department of nursing chair and professor of nursing, received the Rita Kisting Sparks Faculty Service Award in recognition of her service to the nursing program. This award was established by its namesake, a founding faculty member of the School of Nursing. Kisting Sparks retired in 2002 after serving as a faculty member, department chair, assistant dean and interim associate dean. She established this award through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation to recognize faculty achievement for excellence in service.

Clinical instructor and nursing skills lab coordinator Nita Johnson, received the Suzanne Van Ort Award for Faculty Creativity and Scholarliness, which was established by its namesake, dean of the School of Nursing from 1977-82. Van Ort recently retired from the deanship at the University of Arizona. She established this award to recognize faculty for their scholarship and creative endeavors.
