Entrepreneurial Training Program
Now Taking Applications

RELEASED: July 23, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — Turning a creative business idea into a profitable enterprise takes serious planning. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education now is accepting applications for its Entrepreneurial Training series that will begin Sept. 29. Enrollment is limited to ensure individual questions can be addressed, so early registration is encouraged.

The series comprises 12 efficient sessions designed to help people learn the fundamentals of small business management and create a business plan that will guide their actions and attract potential investors. Sessions will meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:15 p.m. at UW-Eau Claire's Haas Fine Arts Center.

"The series is designed for those who are serious about starting a business or for those already in businesses who need structured training," said SBDC business counseling coordinator Jim Mishefske. "It is intended for people who need a comprehensive business plan for funding, expansion, planning or evaluation of their business idea."

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce provides tuition assistance in the amount of $750 to qualified applicants who complete the program, including the preparation of a written business plan, so the actual cost to participate in the Entrepreneurial Training series is only $250.

The fall series schedule is:

  • Sept. 29 — Feasibility/Business Plan/Online Research.
  • Oct. 6 — Understanding Your Market/Developing a Strategy.
  • Oct. 13 — Small Business Advertising and Promotion.
  • Oct. 20 — E-Commerce/Web site Development.
  • Oct. 27 — Legal Issues and Risk Management.
  • Nov. 3 — Business Plan Writing Workshop.
  • Nov. 10 — Financial Management.
  • Nov. 17 — Customer Service and Time Management.
  • Nov. 24 — Developing Your Financial Statements.
  • Dec. 1 — Technology and Your Small Business.
  • Dec. 8 — Record keeping and Taxes.
  • Dec. 15 — Selling Your Business and Yourself.

By the end of the series participants will have completed a comprehensive business plan. Individualized counseling from the Small Business Development Center is available at no charge to all program participants as they work on their business plans during and following the series.

For more information or to register, contact Jim Mishefske at 715-836-5811, 866-893-2423, through the Wisconsin Relay System (711) or e-mail Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance of the program.

The Small Business Development Centers are members of the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network, a coalition of more than 100 partner organizations, which provides access to services for small businesses throughout Wisconsin.
