SUBJECT: New state budget impact on UW-Eau Claire
The 2009-11 state budget signed last week by Gov. Jim Doyle includes some painful cuts but also some positive provisions for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich stated in a July 3 e-mail message to UW-Eau Claire employees.
Included in the budget is $44.5 million for construction of a new academic building to replace UW-Eau Claire's Brewer Hall/Campus School. While the new building is enumerated in the 2009-11 budget, funds for construction will not be made available until 2011-13. Planning and design of the new building will be completed during the next two years.
Overall, UW-Eau Claire's share of operating budget reductions is $14.4 million for the biennium — including general purpose revenue (GPR), fees and program revenue (PR). The GPR-only reductions in the budget represent an 11 percent state funding decrease.
