EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has announced the spring semester schedule of events in The Cabin, the Davies Center coffeehouse that celebrates its 40th anniversary this season. The longest-running coffeehouse series in the nation, The Cabin provides free performances nearly every weekend and jazz concerts many Wednesday evenings.

The schedule includes a monthly open stage opportunity for campus and area talent, and musical performances by UW-Eau Claire students, faculty, staff, community members and nationally touring artists. All performances are produced and managed completely by student members of The Cabin committee of the Student Senate's University Activities Commission.

The semester opens with local talent shows Jan. 30-31. Cabin performances are at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Highlights of the semester include the following:

  • Professional artists Soap (Feb. 13-14), Skittish (March 27-28) and Emilia Dahlin (May 1-2) will perform Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., and Saturday at 8 p.m.
  • Open stage opportunities will be presented Feb. 6; March 7; April 24; and May 9. Anyone interested in performing may sign up in the Student Senate office, Davies Center 132, before 4:30 p.m. on the day of the show.
  • Western Wisconsin's finest jazz musicians will perform on select Wednesdays (Feb. 18 and 25; March 4 and 11; April 1, 8, 15 and 29).
  • Every Tuesday in April will feature Classical Cabin Fever at noon, starting April 7 and continuing through April 28. Oboes, flutes, and pianos are a few of the instruments to be showcased.
  • Singer-songwriter Slam will perform Feb. 20-21 as part of the Winter Carnival celebration.

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at all Friday and Saturday programs. Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.
