RELEASED: Jan. 23, 2009

poster for In BrugesEAU CLAIRE — "In Bruges" (2008), the debut feature film by playwright Martin McDonagh ("The Pillowman"), will screen Jan. 29-Feb. 1 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

McDonagh has received an Oscar nomination for his original screenplay for the film, which will be presented Thursday through Sunday at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in Davies Theatre.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star as two Dublin hit men who are ordered to hole up in the small, storybook Belgian town of Bruges after a botched job gets them into trouble with their London crime boss (Ralph Fiennes). Quite out of place amidst the gothic architecture, canals and cobbled streets, the two men fill their days living the lives of tourists. One hates the place, while the other finds his mind and soul being expanded by the beauty and serenity of the city.

The University Activities Commission of the Student Senate will present the 107-minute film, which is rated R.

Admission is $2 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the Service Center (715-836-3727) in Davies Center's east lobby and will be sold at the door.

Visit the University Activities Commission Web site for more information about the campus film series. Information also is available at the Activities and Programs office, Davies Center 133.
