Jabali Afrika |
EAU CLAIRE — Jabali Afrika will return to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for a performance Feb. 3. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the show in Schofield Auditorium. Admission is free and open to all ages.
From Kenya, Jabali (Kiswahili for "rock") Afrika is a multifaceted group with a unique blend of fusion and African rhythms. Original compositions and traditional African melodies come alive on a wide variety of instruments, accompanied by vocal harmonies that form the foundation of modern rock, jazz, gospel and blues. The group's choreography and African tribal costumes make for a truly multicultural experience.
Joseck Asikoye, Victor Elolo and Justo Otongo were members of the Kenya National Theatre Dance Troupe before breaking away to form Jabali Afrika. Their traditional adaptations have earned recognition throughout Africa, Europe, Japan and the United States.
The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
