EAU CLAIRE — Rob Reid, a senior lecturer in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's foundations of education department and a freelance storyteller, knows how to keep busy.

In a year's time, Reid will have released four new books in addition to writing columns for magazines and beginning new literary projects.

With nearly 20 years of experience as a children's librarian, Reid teaches courses on librarianship and children's and young adult literature. Along with his teaching duties, Reid is an accomplished author of children's resource books, with a literary career stemming back to 1995 with his first publication, "Children's Jukebox."

In fall 2008 Reid published "More Family Storytimes," a companion book to "Family Storytime," released in 1999. The book includes songs, stories, finger plays and movement activities aimed to enhance the family library experience. Also released in 2008 was "Shake and Shout," a collection of story program lesson plans with a musical element. Reid said that adding the musical aspect to the lesson plans helps "make the music come alive."

Reid also has two more books coming out in the next few months. The first, "Reid's Read Alouds," is similar to a magazine column he writes for Book Links magazine titled "The Reid Aloud Alert." "Reid's Read Alouds" features 200 books that are good to read to groups of children from elementary to high school age. The book also highlights what Reid calls the "10-Minute Selection," which includes short passages that can be used as stand-alone pieces if an educator doesn't have time to read an entire book to students. The book is slated for a February or March release.

Reid's other scheduled release is the picture book "Comin' Down to Storytime," which includes a verse text that can be sung to the tune of the song "She'll Be Comin' 'round the Mountain." The book is scheduled for release in March.

Reid said he usually works on two projects at a time and is currently working on a second volume of "Reid's Read Alouds" and possibly a picture book biography of William H. Robinson with colleague Roger Tlusty.

Along with teaching and travelling to schools and public libraries to entertain children and their families, Reid said writing has always been a passion for him.

"I have always loved to write and have found my special niche by writing resource books about children's books for libraries and teachers," he said.
