UW-Eau Claire Golden Key International Honour Society Receives Prestigious Chapter Service Award

RELEASED: Feb. 26, 2009

Golden Key International Honour Society logoEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire recently received a Golden Key International Honour Society Chapter Service Award, a $1,000 award that will be used to support the local chapter's service to the community.

The Chapter Service Award is one of many ways that Golden Key helps student members realize their potential, said Paula Stuettgen, one of the chapter's UW-Eau Claire advisers. The awards support a chapter's ability to offer outstanding service to the community, she said.

UW-Eau Claire's Golden Key will use the award to increase prize money to Eau Claire Area School District fourth-grade classrooms that participate in the annual Golden Key essay contest, said chapter President Julie Germain of New Richmond.

Each year only 10 chapters receive the award, which is sponsored by Better World Books in support of its elementary school essay contest.

"It is only fitting that the chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is recognized by Golden Key," said John W. Mitchell, Golden Key's chief executive officer. "Our members are inspired and motivated not only to achieve exceptional academic accomplishments, but also to make a positive impact on out world through the society's commitment to service."

Established in 1977, the Golden Key International Honour Society is the world's premier collegiate honor society with more than 1.8 million student and alumni members and more than 365 campus-based chapters worldwide.

Golden Key provides academic recognition to top performing undergraduate and graduate students. Members participate in leadership development opportunities, community service and career networking, and are eligible for member exclusive scholarships. Faculty advisers and student leadership are volunteers.

UW-Eau Claire faculty advisers are Paula Stuettgen of University Centers and Earl Shoemaker of Academic Advising.
