Shamrock Shuffle Set for March 8
to Raise Funds for Youth Sports Program

shamrocksEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of Recreation & Sport Facilities will host the Shamrock Shuffle, a 5K fun run/walk, on March 8. The run/walk will start at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Post 53, 634 Water St., Eau Claire.

All proceeds from the event will support the Wisconsin Youth Sports Program (formerly known as the National Youth Sports Program), a five-week summer sports camp for youth aged 10 to 16 from economically disadvantaged families. The program teaches sports skills and competition, and helps educate participants in the areas of math and science, health and nutrition, careers and the importance of education.

The following are new features of this year's Shamrock Shuffle:

  1. Win a party: The team, organization, business or UW-Eau Claire residence hall with the most event participants will win a party featuring sub sandwiches, pizza or barbequed chicken wings.
  2. Ice cream drawing: Past NYSP/WYSP summer camp participants who wear an old camp shirt will have their names entered in a drawing to win ice cream.
  3. Toothbrush donation drive: WYSP summer camp participants learn about proper dental health and receive toothbrushes. Shamrock Shuffle participants are invited to bring a new toothbrush to donate to this effort.
  4. Junior shirt sizes: Junior-size T-shirts will be available to smaller-sized Shamrock Shuffle participants who register by Feb. 27 and who are among the first 125 run/walk registrants.

Teams of six or more should register for the Shamrock Shuffle by Feb. 27, and individual advance registration is due by March 6. Individuals also can register the day of the event beginning at 9 a.m.

The fee is $13 for individuals registering in advance or $16 for people registering the day of the event. Team registration is $18 per member.

Team members will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt. The first 125 individuals registered will receive a short-sleeved T-shirt.
