for the Week of Feb. 23

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Feb. 23. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Feb. 24:

  • Senior Brian Handeland, Minneapolis, Minn., will present an alto saxophone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by Judy Lies, Handeland will begin with an arrangement of "Variations on a Gavotte by Corelli," followed by Aria" by Eugene Bozza and his own arrangement of "Andante and Rondo" by Albert Franz Doppler. The second half of the recital will include Concertino Da Camera by Jacques Ibert, Petite Suite by Walter Hartley and Ryo Noda's "Mai." The recital will conclude with Michael B. Nelson's arrangement of "West Side Story Medley" by Leonard Bernstein.

Wednesday, Feb. 25:

  • UW-Eau Claire student organization Sigma Alpha Iota, the student music fraternity, will present "Songs of Springtime" at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. SAI will perform selections by Franz Liszt, Paul Bowles, John Kenny, Takashi Yoshimatsu, Amy Marcy Cheney Beach and others. Sigma Alpha Iota consists of 24 students in the UW-Eau Claire music department.

Thursday, Feb. 26:

  • Sophomore Stuart Wallace, Bloomington, Ill., will present a trumpet recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
