SUBJECT: UW-Eau Claire Student/Local Radio Show Host Deployed
Scott Morfitt, a junior journalism major from Amery who hosts a popular local radio show on a Wisconsin Public Radio affiliate, is among the UW-Eau Claire students who are on military leave this semester because they are being deployed to Iraq.
For the last two years, Morfitt has hosted "Local Independence," a Sunday evening show that features interviews with and the music of local and regional artists. The show, broadcast out of the Haas Fine Arts Center on the UW-Eau Claire campus, is on WPR affiliate WUEC 89.7 FM.
Morfitt was voted the third best local radio personality in Volume One's most recent Best of the Chippewa Valley Reader Poll.
At least 22 UW-Eau Claire students are on military leave during the spring 2009 semester, many of them part of the Wisconsin National Guard's February deployment of up to 3,500 soldiers who will mobilize for a one-year mission that will take them to Iraq.
Morfitt will leave for training the week of Feb. 9. He is available this week to discuss his upcoming deployment. You can reach him at morfitsa@uwec.edu.
