UW-Eau Claire to Offer Seminars on Human Resource Management

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Small Business Development Center and the office of Continuing Education will offer four human resources management workshops for small business owners, managers and human resource professionals to discuss HR issues, answers and best practices.

  • "HR and a Motivated Workforce" will meet from 8:30 a.m.-noon March 3. It will be taught by Bob Pecor from Coaching Forward in Eau Claire. Participants will discover how human resources managers influence information flow, impact employee satisfaction and add value to the company.
  • "Top 10 Most Common HR Mistakes (and how to avoid them!)" will run from 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. March 3. Steve Weld, president of Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C. in Eau Claire, will lead the session. Participants will learn to reduce risk of incurring legal action and avoid unnecessary litigation by reviewing HR laws that affect the workplace.
  • "Creating a Culture of Civility" will meet from 8:30 a.m.-noon March 24. It will be facilitated by Bob Pecor from Coaching Forward in Eau Claire. Participants will learn how hostile behaviors can hurt workplace culture and discuss how to respond constructively to hostile, intimidating or demeaning behaviors exhibited by anyone in the workplace.
  • "Writing Your Employee Handbook" will meet from 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. March 24. It will be taught by Roger Jones from Human Resource Management Services in Rochester, Minn. He will discuss how well-written employee handbooks promote enhanced productivity and morale. Participants will learn to write effective personnel policies and discuss how to avoid common pitfalls when communicating personnel policies to employees.

Each half-day workshop fee is $99. A discounted fee of $356 is available for pre-registration for all four workshops by one person. Fees include instruction, course materials, Continuing Education Units and refreshments.

Workshops meet at the Sleep Inn & Suites Conference Center, 5872 33rd Ave., at the intersection of Highway 29 and County Road T, three miles north of Eau Claire.
