Assistance Available for High School Seniors
to Complete Financial Aid Forms

RELEASED: Feb. 2, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — Financial Aid professionals from local colleges and universities will be among those helping area high school seniors and their parents apply for financial aid during College Goal Sunday.

The free event will begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Chippewa Valley Technical College, 620 W. Clairemont Ave. Similar sessions will take place at the same time at 20 locations throughout the state with the goal of helping high school students and their families access federal and state college aid.

During the Eau Claire session, financial aid experts from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, CVTC, Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, Globe University, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction/WEOP and lending institutions will provide step-by-step help in completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form is an essential first step to attaining financial aid for higher education.

College Goal Sunday is designed to address the needs of low-income and first-generation college families, many of whom think they cannot afford to attend college. Completing the FAFSA is the first step these students must take to overcome their financial burdens and pursue their goals of higher education.

Students should attend with the parent or guardian if possible. Students and parents must bring their completed federal income tax forms for 2008, W2 statements and any other 2008 income and/or benefits information.

In 2006, Wisconsin hosted its first College Goal Sunday event and hundreds of students and their families received assistance. In 2007, the event nearly tripled in attendance.

The nationwide event is sponsored locally by the Wisconsin Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators with a grant from Lumina Foundation for Education.

For more information, go to the College Goal Sunday Web site or call 866-578-4625.
