Time to make reservations for Aldo Leopold Banquet

RELEASED: Dec. 18, 2009

Aldo Leopold Banquet posterEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Environmental Adventure Center will collaboratively host the fifth annual Aldo Leopold Banquet and silent auction from 5-10 p.m. Feb. 26, 2010, at the Westgate Sportsmans Club in Eau Claire.

The popular banquet honors the conservation legacy of Aldo Leopold, celebrates his life and writings, and aims to further foster the idea of developing a land ethic. The theme of this year's banquet is "Connecting Aldo Leopold with the 'Next Generation' and the UW-Eau Claire Clean Bicycle Commute." The gathering is designed to pass the land legacy torch to the next generation and to support the bicycling program at UW-Eau Claire.

The banquet's rustic-themed menu includes several wild game recipes as well as vegetarian options. The cost is $25 per person for community members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and $15 for students. Seating is limited and expected to sell out quickly, so advance registration is requested.

The program will feature music by Warren Petryk and six guest speakers: Kenny Salwey, author and star of the Emmy-award-winning film "Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat, which won seven international wildlife film awards; Dave Carlson, WQOW-TV personality and host of the award-winning show "Northland Adventures"; George Meyer, retired secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and current executive director of the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation; Dr. Sean Hartnett, UW-Eau Claire professor of geography; Dr. Kate Hale-Wilson, UW-Eau Claire sustainability fellow; UW-Eau Claire senior Adam Koble, Waseca, Minn., of the UW-Eau Claire Cycling Club; and sophomore Sam Lynch, Menomonie, a student employee of the Environmental Adventure Center.

Aldo Leopold Weekend is a collaborative effort of the Aldo Leopold Foundation, select faculty at UW-Eau Claire, the Department of Natural Resources in Wisconsin and Minnesota and many area agencies, organizations and businesses who support the development of a land ethic.

All proceeds from the banquet will benefit the UW-Eau Claire Environmental Adventure Center Student Bicycling Program.

Tickets for the Aldo Leopold Banquet are available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-8932, or at the Westgate Sportsmans Club, 715-832-4548.
