Continuing Education announces upcoming GEMS workshops

GEMS imageEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education announces the continuation of its Great Explorations in Math and Science program in 2010. GEMS workshops will be offered the second Saturday of each month from February through May from 10 a.m.-noon in Phillips Hall at UW-Eau Claire.

The GEMS program brings science and math to life for 4th-8th grade students through interactive workshops led by UW-Eau Claire faculty. Each workshop explores a different area of scientific discovery through experiments, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Parents are welcome to stay and learn alongside their children at no additional cost. However, small children or older children who are not registered for the workshop will not be admitted.

Workshop topics are:

  • Feb. 13: Star Quest (astronomy).
  • March 13: It Matters! (chemistry).
  • April 10: Stories in Stone (geology).
  • May 8: Shocking World of Fish (biology).

The fee for each GEMS workshop is $12 in advance or $18 at the door. On-site registration will be available as space allows. Those interested may call the Continuing Education office before 5 p.m. the Friday before a given workshop to find out if it is full.
